Data architect

My client a leading satellite communications provider with global operations is currently recruiting for a Data Architect to join them on a permanent basis in London.

You will contribute to establishing and maintaining alignment among the enterprise architecture, the IT architecture, strategic IT plan, and the strategic IT initiatives. While also providing data architecture expertise into project and programs in line with the target IT architecture and best practice data principles. The role is also engaged in the continuous improvement of data architecture artefacts within the EA Sparx environment including the Enterprise Information Reference Model, the Enterprise Data Dictionary and conceptual and logical information and data models.

Key Responsibilities:

The responsibilities of the individual in this position include:

  • Lead and provide oversight into the development and maintenance of current and future state data and information strategies and architecture including data related policies
  • Support business and IT strategic planning and product development teams as required
  • Define and maintain best practice guidelines and standards for information and data architecture
  • Collaborate with Solution Designers, business analysts and project managers on a wide range of technology projects, including software development, package implementations, and infrastructure upgrades/changes
  • Communicate and market data architectural decisions, plans, goals and strategies
  • Gain organizational commitment for data architecture and related initiatives
  • Identify architectural risks and propose alternatives and solutions and retain responsibility for the overall integrity of the data architecture
  • Translates business requirements into long-term information/data architecture solutions, including conceptual, logical and physical models.
  • Analyses and defines IT master data management strategies and models
  • Implements and promotes governance processes for information and metadata to ensure establishment of a common language and the ongoing accuracy, validity, and reuse of metadata
  • Defines and maintains best practice guidelines and standards for data, metadata, data modelling, and management
  • Serves as point of escalation, review, and approval for data architecture issues
  • Advises business and technology groups on future data management technology options, outlining risks, costs, benefits, and capabilities
  • Assist the Enterprise Information Architect in implementing the key Data Strategy Pillars of Data Governance, Master Data, Access & Insight, Data & Information Services
  • Monitor and improve the quality of the data architecture artefacts in EA Sparx especially the Enterprise Information Models and associated dictionaries
  • Ensure wider projects and programmes are adhering to the data architecture
  • Assist in implementing a Data Governance Framework
  • Work closely with the IS027001 programme and any related compliance initiatives to develop a set of data and information processes and policies
  • Provide support into the Data Governance Forum and Domain Governance Forums

Essential Knowledge and Skills:

  • Expertise in all aspects of implementing data architecture
  • Experience successfully defining and implementing data-centric and service oriented architectures
  • Comprehensive understanding and experience in master data management best practices and ability to be a leader in their implementation
  • Working knowledge of data architecture principles, terminology, and data modeling techniques
  • Detailed understanding of data repository characteristics, including data warehouses, operational data stores, data marts, and application databases
  • Demonstrated ability to produce conceptual, logical, and physical data models, proven experience with data modelling tools
  • Strong strategic planning capabilities
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience working with cross-functional IT groups to promote open communication and teamwork
  • Understanding the IT architecture discipline, processes, concepts, and best practices
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in order to document and present data models, strategies, standards, and concepts to both business and IT audiences
